First Luminous Mystery: The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan
After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. (Matthew 3:16-17)
The voice of the Father was heard; the Holy Spirit was seen as a dove hovering over the Word made flesh… It was thus that the Spirit was revealed to us, that Spirit who, from the beginning of the world, is over the waters and renews the face of the earth with its goodness. Color Green: Let us pray for Africa. That by the faithfulness to the Baptism received, the Spirit of love may open the hearts of Christians to welcome the Gospel message, and to show compassion to the poor.
