First Sorrowful Mystery: The Agony of our Lord in the Garden

First Sorrowful Mystery: The Agony of Our Lord in the Garden - Stations of the Cross procession in D.R. CongoJesus came with the disciples to a place called Gethsemane… He said to them, "My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch with me." He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not as I will, but as you will." (Matthew 26:36-39)

Everything is marvelous in the life of the God-made-flesh. He brings life out of death, glory out of suffering, triumph out of apparent defeat. It is for this reason that the passion and death of our divine Savior, instead of being a scandal for us, increases our faith and helps form in us one of the most convincing reasons of his divine mission. The church’s liturgy celebrates and sings his praises. (Blessed Guido Conforti)

Green Color: Let us pray for our brothers and sisters of Africa. That all nationalities, cultures and races, who often experience neglect and death, may find in the sufferings of Christ the strength needed through their trials. May they be open to sincere dialogue, welcome, understanding and respect for each other’s gifts.
