Second Sorrowful Mystery: The Scourging at the Pillar
So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them and, after he had Jesus scourged, handed him over to be crucified. (Mark 15:15)
It is useless, o Pilate, to flog Jesus the Nazarene, so that the people may change their minds and not condemn the Christ. Don’t you see: they are like savage beasts as they smell blood. They long for more. They cry: Crucify Him, Crucify Him! (Blessed Guido M. Conforti)
Red Color: Let us pray for the Americas. That our brothers and sisters in these lands may overcome the challenges of secular societies, and the risk of leaving God behind in their decisions. May they uphold the gift of life through faithfulness to the Lord. How many still receive the ‘scourging’ of today’s Pilate, deprived of their human dignity!
