They stripped off his clothes and threw a scarlet military cloak about Jesus. Weaving a crown out of thorns, they placed it on his head, and a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" They threw a purple cloak on Him; they placed a reed on his hand; they crowned him with thorns. “This is the Lamb of God” on whom God’s favor rests. He undergoes pains, suffering, and death, after having prepared his disciples in every way possible, reminding them that the Messiah must suffer and endure death in order to bring his salvation to the world.
