Sharing my Experience in the USA
Denny Wahyudi from Indonesia has been at our house in Franklin, WI, for a year of language study. Here are some reflections about this first cross-cultural experience in the USA. Here are some of those reflections.
...
On May 31st, in the presence of our Chicago Theology, I renewed my vows. I
thank God for this opportunity to be a Xaverian while I ask for His grace to
strengthen me in this vocation.
This summer I have worked as a volunteer at 'Casa Maria' in nearby Milwaukee. The group I volunteered with is inspired by Dorothy Day, Founder of 'The Catholic Worker Movement.' I had a similar experience when I was helping the Good Shepherd Sisters in Jakarta, in my country of Indonesia, working with flood victims. The solidarity among the people is just remarkable and wonderful to see!...
A couple of months ago, I was invited to take part in a protest in front of a 'Taco Bell' fast-food restaurant downtown Milwaukee. The manifestation was held because farm-workers for 'Taco Bell' in Florida are unjustly underpaid. This was my first experience in a protest... I never did any before in Indonesia.
All in all, it's been a good year at Xavier Knoll, Franklin, WI.
