What unites us is Greater

Bishop George Biguzzi

Dec. 2004

Bishop Biguzzi on Christmashe Child of Bethlehem reconciled heaven and earth so that all God’s children on this planet may live in harmony, aware of our common humanity and glorious destiny.

The Christmas message is that what unites us is far greater than what pulls us apart. Xaverian Bishop George Biguzzi of Makeni, Sierra Leone (West Africa), writes about this miracle of grace:

”I have been in a parish about 80 miles from Makeni for the annual pastoral visit. As I arrived, there were hundreds of children in bright uniforms to welcome me at the entrance of the town. The surprising this is that these children belonged to three different schools: the Catholic, the Methodist, and the Islamic. Before my departure, the headmaster of the Methodist School and the headmistress of the Muslim Brotherhood School insisted that I go talk in their respective schools during assembly time. I accepted gladly.

This is a sign of the high esteem of the people for the Catholic Church and a sign of the cordial mutual relationships existing among different religions here in Sierra Leone.”

And this is the message all missionaries proclaim and witness to in view of a more peace-filled world.
