May 8, 1948, Angelo Frosi was ordained to the priesthood in Boston – the first
Xaverian ordained in America. He desired to leave for “mission” but the Xaverian
community was small in the new world.
He studied at Fordham and Boston College, was first editor of the Xaverian Newsletter. He did vocation ministry, raised funds for our seminaries, and mission work.
He was a friend to all, and many were the friends that shared his mission dream as a result. He was provincial of the States and Mexico.
His vision was panoramic and he developed our houses in Milwaukee, WI and San Jose, CA. His was a learning experience. He was a pioneer in his own right. His sincerity, sense of purpose, and real friendship, were ever lasting qualities.
In 1967 he was called to serve in Northern Brazil. This meant a new language, new initiatives, challenges without number. He was a missionary and his answer was ever affirmative. Vatican II provided novel directives and his total dedication made him a champion for his people and shepherd of his flock.
Twenty were his US years, and 28 were his years in his diocese of Abaetetuba. “Love” became the driving force of his apostolate, his “faith” beckoned him forward, he radiated “hope” for the future. He was labeled an eager beaver so industrious and enthusiastic was he for the work of the Lord.
Mission is path seeking and endless dreams. His heart failed him on the way, his strength waned, his life, love driven until the last, ceded.
He is buried among the people he served… and his smile is not forgotten.
