The New team to guide the Xaverians in Mexico for the next 3 yearsA New Provincial Administration among the Xaverians in Mexicohe Xaverians who work in Mexico celebrated their Chapter in December. They talked about plans and activities for the future, and elected the new administration for the next three years. Mexico includes a good number of Xaverians, about 120. Two members of the General Direction in Rome assisted them during the Chapter: Fr. Romano (originally from Spain) and Fr. Robledo (originally from Mexico)

The training of students

Following a day of retreat, Fr. Luigino Marchioron, the former Provincial of Mexico, presented a detailed paper on the events of the Mexican Province, its mission activities, and its hopes. In the following six days, the assembly discussed and approved a document on the formation of young students who feel inspired to follow the missionary life: these might be at the high-school level, university, in the families, and even in theology studies.

What became the focus on the discussion was the need of good formators in communities who work in teams and with much enthusiasm. There was also some talk about collaboration with lay missionaries, the care of sick missionaries, and the need of a cemetery to honor the memory of Xaverians who have passed away. Like in any good family, the Xaverians try to take good care of the youth, the aged, and their loved ones.

The service for the good of others

During the Assembly, there was the election of the new administration. The new Provincial is Fr. Javier Pères, helped in his service by the Vice-Provincial Fr. Juan Olvera (who studied at Chicago in the 1990’s), and by the councilors Fr. Gerardo Custodio (who studied also in Chicago), Fr. Felipe Rebollo and Fr. Mario Gallia.

It’s a very young team, with a medium age of 45 years, who received the confidence of the Chapter to guide the Mexican province in their role of leadership. At its end, the Chapter delegates expressed their deep thanks to Fr. Luigino, the exiting Provincial, for his dedication to his service, for the good of the communities, and for the missions.
