In the Name of God

In the name of God,
loving and merciful!

Praise God, Lord of creation,
the Clement, the Merciful,
the Master of the day of Judgment!

We adore you, we beseech your help.
Guide us on the right path,
the path of those upon whom
you have poured your grace,
the path of those with whom
you are not angry,
the path of those
who do not stumble on sin!

Poems from Indonesia

In Thanksgiving for Creation

O Lord, all your works are beautiful,
your creation proclaims your praise.
High mountains and deep blue oceans,
clear skies and green pastures,
the rain and budding flowers,
the running river, butterflies and birds.

All your works proclaim your praise,
oh marvelous Lord of creation.
Your gift of the earth is so beautiful
that no human words or means
can express our gratitude.
You, o Lord, know well
deep down our hearts
there is praise for your manifold gifts,
most of all, for the gift of life,
so that we can experience
your beauty and goodness.
You have created a beautiful world,
o Lord.

Amen

We want to see you smiling

Jesus, we greet you.

You know all our wishes,
even if we don't express them.
Jesus, we have a lot of desires,
but the biggest desire is to stay with you.
Jesus, you are now in heaven,
in your reign, in God's Reign.
Here on our earth
you had to bear so much pain.
We now hope that in heaven,
your sufferings are gone.

Yet, we keep on asking ourselves
if you still worry about us.
We would like to promise
that you wouldn't have to worry.
Jesus, we want you to be happy.
We would like to see you smile
even only in a dream.

We want to see your smiling face,
yes, happy and joyful.
But then, Jesus,
what kind of face do you have?

(From a child)

Silence

Sit at the edge of dawn,
and the sun will rise for you.
Sit at the edge of the night,
and the stars will twinkle for you.
Sit at the edge of a brook,
and the songbird will sing for you.
Sit at the edge of silence,
and God will speak to you.
