e,
Xaverian Missionaries , arrived in the Philippines in 1991 with the
intention of opening an international theology for those students
who would eventually be assigned to missionary service in Asia. So,
we opened our Theology House in Maligaya, Manila; while in the
meantime, the Parish of Saint Francis Xavier was erected and
entrusted to the Xaverian Missionaries by Cardinal Sin on December
3, 1992. The parish was meant to integrate the pastoral formation of
our students.
The
Philippines has responded for centuries to the Christian message.
The evangelization began with the voyage of Magellan in 1521,
established and organized in the various islands by Spanish
colonists along the lines of Christian principles. The
Christian community constitutes about 80% of the population.
Today,
because of the demands of the local church, we are involved in
parish ministry, inter-religious dialogue, and teaching. There
is hope that we may soon have Filipino Xaverians since this land is
indeed fertile for mission vocations.
